HiSET (High School Equivalency Test) Paper-Based Testing

The LAVC Specialized Testing Center in conjunction with the CalWORKs (California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids) Office is accepting registrations for the official High School Equivalency Test (or HiSET®). LAVC is an official HiSET® Testing Site.

The HiSET® is the new alternative to the GED; the CA State Board of Education approved the HiSET® for individuals to earn a California High School Equivalency Certificate. To be eligible to take the HiSET®, you must be a California resident, be 18 years or older, have a valid government issued identification, and not be currently enrolled in high school.

HiSET® Paper-Based Test
The HiSET® paper-based test is held over two days (Friday and Saturday) once a month, and the computer-based test is available by appointment only. Participants taking the paper-based test must attend both days for each session. 

  • The following is a schedule of the paper-based HiSET during Winter and Spring 2018:

    • Friday-Saturday, January 5-6; the last day to register is January 3.

    • Friday-Saturday, January 26-27; the last day to register is January 24.

    • Friday-Saturday, February 23-24; the last day to register is February 21.

    • Friday-Saturday, March 23-24; the last day to register is March 21.

    • Friday-Saturday, April 27-28; the last day to register is April 25.

    • Friday-Saturday, May 18-19; the last day to register is May 16.

    • Friday-Saturday, June 8-9; the last day to register is June 6.

  • The computer-based HiSET is available by appointment only.

To take the test, participants must register in person in ACA 1101; last day to register is 2 business days before the test. The fee for the full test is $150.00 and additional fees may apply (non-refundable). Space is limited and pre-registration is required.

This event is wheelchair accessible. Individuals needing sign language interpreters, assisted listening devices, large print, Braille materials, or any other accomodations, should contact the CalWORKs Office at (818) 947-2976 at least 5 business days in advance.

Ticket Cost: $150 fee

Parking: Guest should park in Parking Lot A. Parking permits are required at all times. Daily Parking permits for student parking spots can be purchased at an LAVC parking pay station. View campus map
