BUILD PODER Information Table

The LAVC Career/Transfer Center (CTC) is offering "BUILD PODER Application" workshops for students who are interested in participating in a hands-on research training program at California State University, Northridge.

Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity (BUILD) Promoting Opportunities for Diversity in Education and Research (PODER) is a funded undergraduate research training program for students seeking to gain hands-on research experience in the biomedical field (broadly defined), STEM, and health-related majors.

BUILD PODER pairs undergraduate students with a faculty mentor from CSUN. Students will have the opportunity to gain research experience related to health sciences, behavioral sciences, and in the biomedical field through the guidance of a faculty mentor. BUILD PODER’s university wide initiative, steeped in Critical Race Theory, aims to close the achievement gap and to increase the number of students from historically underrepresented communities in biomedical research degrees.

The benefits of being part of BUILD PODER include a monthly stipend of $720 for up to 3 years, travel funds to present at professional conferences, research funds towards research materials, scholarship for a GRE preparatory course, tutoring, and much more.

The BUILD PODER program eligibility requirements are a 3.0 GPA or higher, maintain full-time status (12 units), have 1 year remaining before transferring, be a U.S. Citizen, National, or permanent resident, and be committed to attending a Doctoral Program after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

A BUILD PODER representative will be available to talk with students about the program on the following dates:

  • Monday, April 8, 2019 from 10:00am - 2:00pm at the CTC in the Student Services Annex (SSA)

  • Tuesday, April 16, 2019 from 10:00am - 2:00pm at the CTC in the Student Services Annex (SSA)

  • Monday, April 22, 2019 from 10:00am - 2:00pm at the CTC in the Student Services Annex (SSA)

  • Tuesday May 7, 2019 from 10:00am - 2:00pm at the CTC in the Student Services Annex (SSA)
