February 12 - March 7, 2020

Prison Arts Collective (PAC) works to expand access to the transformative power of the arts through collaboration and mutual learning that supports the development of self-expression, reflection, communication, and empathy through providing multidisciplinary arts programming. With support from Arts in Corrections, a partnership between the California Arts Council and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the PAC offers weekly art programming on 15 yards in 9 correctional institutions.

Beyond the Blue is a traveling exhibition of over 100 works of art created by incarcerated participants in PAC programming in California state prisons. The artists seek to transform their lives through art. They express their aim to shift society’s stereotypical image of ‘inmate’ or ‘prisoner’ by sharing their personal expressions, goals, and talents to demonstrate their shared humanity.

The LAVC Art Gallery serves as a resource for students and the greater community of the San Fernando Valley. Presenting ambitious visual arts exhibitions, lectures and collaborative partnerships, we provide a dynamic platform for dialogue, inquiry, and discovery.
