The mission of EOPS (Extended Opportunity Programs and Services) at Los Angeles Valley College is to assist eligible students who have historically experienced economic and educational challenges. To increase access, retention and goal completion, EOPS provides the following "over and above" services:
Evelyn Batres is transferring to UCLA after being accepted to UC Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara and a few others. She has faced many challenges including when she was in a junior in high school she became pregnant. Now, six years later she credits her daughter for inspiring her to achieve her academic goals. Also, she states that, “…EOP&S change my life!”
When he started at Valley College, Jean Carlo Palacios placed into below college level math on the placement test. Yet his EOPS counselor …”believed in my ability to succeed in the sciences, a belief that I didn’t even have for myself.” This fall, he is transferring to UCLA as a mathematics major.
Single mother, Shonta Price, credits the EOPS tutors with helping her overcome her math anxiety. Also, she was inspired by her six-year-old daughter, who says, “Mommy, don’t give up, you can do it!” This fall, she is transferring to Pepperdine University.
