Los Angeles Valley College is a full-accredited institution that complies with the standards set by the accrediting body that reviews community colleges in this area, the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), which is under the umbrella of the regional Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).  Although considered “voluntary,” accredited status allows educational institutions to receive federal funding for their students and enables courses to be used for transfer to other institutions. The “stamp of approval” provides students, the public, faculty, and staff with assurances of our integrity, quality, and effectiveness.

Our college was re-evaluated this past spring as part of the process undertaken every six years.  The commission met in June 2007 and reviewed our college’s institutional self study report – two years in the making – as well as the report of the comprehensive visit to our campus of the accrediting commission team in March.  At the June meeting, the Commission reaffirmed our accreditation.  We are required to submit a report by March 2008 on our progress in meeting the team’s recommendations regarding district issues.  Another report will be due by October 2008 on progress in fulfilling the team’s recommendations for improvements at the college.  A midterm report is due in March 2010 (required of all colleges undergoing the accreditation review process).  The next comprehensive evaluation of LAVC will occur in Spring 2013.

We are grateful to all the faculty, classified staff, administrators, and students who participated in the process of evaluating our performance in light of the Commission’s standards as well as our own stated goals.  Our comprehensive report, which sums up the findings of our research and discussions over the past two years, is an accurate reflection of our strengths as well as our challenges as an institution.  (Click on the picture of the cover of the self study on this page to read about our college and the action plans we hope to accomplish in the coming years.)
